Sponsor an African Child
If you sponsor a child in Africa through SOS Children you will be
helping to give hope, food, shelter education and love to a child whose parents are no longer there for them. If you give a donation to the SOS Children AIDS Africa programme you would be supporting a young child in Africa who is the only parent their baby brothers and sisters know. We accept donations to be sent 100% to children in need abroad with no deductions for UK admin and fundraising costs if required.
What we do
SOS KDI International is one of the world's largest charities and provides long-term care for those children who have no-one else, as well as wide-ranging support for communities in 125 countries, including 44 African countries where we also run programmes for more than 50,000 Aids Orphans in the community.
Here are a few accounts of the children we are helping in Africa:
- Ugandan Child recovers from war
- African Child in Malawi develops to independence
- New mum for a young girl in Mali, Africa
- The role of traditional African stories in education
Traditionally most of our work was in helping homeless children through to independence by providing homes, love, a family, schools. Sponsored children live in special family villages where each lives in a house with a mother and siblings. This is still a vital work.
The increasing scale of the challenge, especially from the millions of children tragically orphaned by HIV/AIDS, means that new projects are often providing support for child-led families, kept intact in their family homes. For every young child now growing up toward independence, at present hundreds more are faced with the distress of loss of a parent, and the desperate fear they may not be able to provide for younger siblings, whom they tend whilst trying to scavenge a living.
Our organisation
SOS Children's Villages UK (SOS-UK) is a UK registered charity responsible for targeting donations where the need is greatest. SOS-UK channels the money it raises via the SOS-Children's Villages KDI network, one of the world's largest charitable groups. This greatly reduces our assurance costs: the network ensures money is spent as intended. However as a UK charity we have to select from a large number of projects around the world which ones are most cost effective at dealing with the greatest need (and, sadly, which projects are not).
SOS Children's Villages UK relies primarily on donations from individuals. Donors can decide on which projects or countries the entirety of their contribution (after transaction costs) will go to, or leave it to us to decide this. We cover UK administrative costs from donors who are explicitly happy to contribute to these costs. Every donation, however large or small, helps us care for some of the world's most vulnerable children'.

This site is a development site, and the above is a holding message. We have a number of such sites like Aids Kids and Emergency Appeal which in time we will develop into themed sites like our Aids Children Site and our See other sites like our child soldier site to Children's Villages.
